This week the weather plays a hard hand—Sunday and Monday are washouts (thunderstorms and relentless rain), but Tuesday and Wednesday crack clear and warm, which is exactly when you want to be outside or at a stadium. Then the wet sneaks back in late week. Plan accordingly.

The marquee draw is Guns N' Roses at Commonwealth Stadium on Wednesday evening at 6:25 PM. That is a massive outdoor show in a rare window of clear, mild weather—if you have tickets, the timing could not be better. Layer up slightly for the evening chill, but you will not be fighting rain.

If classic rock is your speed but stadium scale is not your scene, Soul Asylum rolls into the Midway Music Hall on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. The Minneapolis band—formed in 1981—broke through hard in 1993 with "Runaway Train," which won the Grammy for Best Rock Song. That single alone is worth the ticket. On the same evening, Krooked Kings bring their Another Life Summer Tour to the Starlite Room at 8:00 PM with Boyscott in tow; it is a softer indie-rock bill if you want something less anthemic.

Tuesday and Wednesday are also your golden window for catching live music outdoors or exploring neighbourhoods on foot. Grab dinner at Pip beforehand if you want brunch-style comfort before an evening show, or hit Sabor for seafood after if you are in the mood for something richer.

Later in the week, Brian Byrne—former vocalist for the Canadian band I Mother Earth—plays the Starlite Room on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Comedy anchors Thursday through Saturday too, with Trixx holding court at Rick Bronson's on the Strip during that stretch.

Boots and Hearts West takes over the Ice District on Thursday evening starting at 6:00 PM, and Russell Dickerson headlining on Friday at 3:00 PM. That is a two-day country festival in downtown—if country is your lane, the Friday slot avoids the worst of Friday's light drizzle.

Saturday brings Monster Jam to Rogers Place at noon and 1:00 PM—a full motorsport spectacle of custom trucks and stunt driving. It is a family draw, and while Saturday will be cool and damp (around 10-16°C), it is indoors and made for the weather we are getting.

Beyond the stage: Andy's Valleyview IGA is reopening at 142 Street and 91 Avenue in Parkview after a two-year gap. Store manager Stuart Trenchard is bringing back the iconic grocer with 45-50 new hires, replacing L'OCA Quality Market, which lasted just over a year. If you have been missing that neighbourhood anchor, it is back.

Wednesday is your weather play—clear, warm, and broad daylight until evening. Catch Guns N' Roses or a walk through the river valley. Thursday through Saturday the rain creeps back in, so lean indoors: Monster Jam, comedy, or a late-night set.

If I had one night this week, it would be Tuesday at the Midway for Soul Asylum—genuine 1990s rock royalty in a dry window, before the rain returns, and the kind of show that reminds you why you live in a city with live music at all.
