Three musical worlds are meeting on Quebec stages this month: Italian rock 'n' roll, folk and Latin. A month-long tour brings Italian musicians Stefano "Borrkia" Toncelli, Lapo Marliani and Mirko Rosi of the Tuscan band I Matti delle Giuncaie, together with Italian-Argentine singer-songwriter Julián Corradini, known as Julico.
For the four musicians, the tour is a chance to introduce Quebec audiences to their distinct styles and share their Italian roots. "The tour started with gasoline to the maximum," said Marliani.
Corradini says the mix of Italian and South American music brings a joyful energy to the shows, inviting audiences to dance and sing along. "I'm the Latin one, he's the rocker, the folk," he said, describing how each musician brings a different style to the stage. He said the result feels like a street party.
The project also takes the form of FUORI CUCINA, which pairs live performances with stories about the regions the musicians come from, along with food and wine from Tuscany and Le Marche.
The tour stops in Montreal, Rimouski, the Gaspé Peninsula, Trois-Rivières, Lavaltrie and Saint-Sauveur, in theatres, cultural centres and other venues. It concludes on November 11 at Montreal's Casa d'Italia, with a concert paired with a presentation and tasting of products from Tuscany and Le Marche.
Rosi described the project as "Italian music, Canadian wood," referring to sponsorship from Godin Guitars, a Montreal-based instrument maker.
