Il Teatro brings Rome to Montréal's Quartier des Spectacles with Italian wine and pasta

Il Teatro opened its Montreal doors in March 2026 in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, bringing Roman-style dining to downtown. The restaurant is the Montreal branch of a Quebec City location known for its terrace that evokes Milan and Naples.

Before a single plate arrives, the setting transports you: chic warm hues, cozy yet elegant fixtures styled like an Italian wine cellar, and a fountain inspired by Rome's Trevi Fountain. The restaurant's appeal is as much about atmosphere as food — though the kitchen delivers on both fronts.

The menu runs deep on classics. Starters include tuna carpaccio with orange vinaigrette and cucumber, burrata with peaches, heirloom tomatoes and pistachios, and arancini with spinach, Caciocavallo and Parmigiano Reggiano. Polpette arrive with tomato sauce, basil and pine nuts.

Pasta choices span spaghetti carbonara made with guanciale and pecorino, linguine with Matane shrimp, lemon butter and gremolata, and rigatoni cacio e pepe with pecorino and black pepper. Gluten-free pasta is available. For non-pasta diners, pollo alla parmigiana, grilled sea bream with caponata and fennel, and a 10-ounce Canadian striploin with arugula salad and potatoes round out mains. Pizzas range from margherita to varieties topped with burrata, prosciutto, Calabrian salami, artichokes and wild mushrooms.

Desserts include tiramisu, gelato, affogato, cannoli, and torta caprese — a flourless cake of chocolate and almonds. Don't overlook the wine list: 400 selections and an inventory exceeding 3,000 bottles, described as extensive and award-winning.

If a full dinner feels like too much, a $35 lunch table d'hôte includes soup or Caesar salad, a main course, and coffee or tea.
