The Montreal metro turns 60 on Wednesday, October 14, and the STM is marking the milestone with free performances across six stations and a day-long celebration of the network that opened on October 14, 1966.

Berri-UQAM will be the epicenter of activity. DJ Pierre-Yves Lord performs 8:15–10:15 a.m., followed by a prize wheel and giveaways starting at a time to be announced (while supplies last). A MUSIQC.ca listening station runs 10 a.m.–3 p.m., the Sous les pommiers brass band plays 3–4 p.m. (presented by Maison de la culture de Ville-Marie), and music by composer Alexandra Stréliski streams throughout the day from 7 a.m.–6 p.m. at Berri-UQAM, McGill, and Université-de-Montréal.

Other stations host performances: Pie-IX features wrestlers in action 3–4 p.m. (Maison de la culture de Maisonneuve), and Angrignon presents a dance performance at the same time (Maison de la culture de LaSalle). Montmorency will broadcast Votre retour with host Monic Néron from 3–6 p.m., and online, Louise Vigneault delivers a lecture on métro architecture, art and history 1:30–3:30 p.m.

The STM has also released a limited-edition 60th anniversary merchandise collection available online, with proceeds supporting Centraide of Greater Montreal and Réchaud-Bus, which operates out of a repurposed STM bus. Made primarily in Quebec (except the tote bag, made in Canada), merchandise will take approximately six weeks to deliver.
