Your monthly STM pass is getting more expensive. Starting July 1, the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain approved a 3% fare increase across Greater Montreal's transit network.
For monthly pass holders, the bump shakes out to an extra $5.50 on regular fares and $3.25 on reduced ones — the same increase applies whether you travel one zone or four. A regular all-modes pass for the Island of Montreal now costs $110, up from $104.50. The Montréal-Laval-Longueuil zone jumps to $170, and the broadest coverage (zones A through D) hits $206 and $281 respectively.
The catch: if you hop on transit sporadically, you're in the clear. Single and two-ride fares aren't moving. The whole increase lands on people carrying a monthly pass.
ARTM director general Benoît Gendron acknowledged the timing is rough, saying the agency is "fully aware of the impact" the yearly adjustment carries while the cost of living squeezes households. The bump is the minimum allowed under the region's 2025-2028 funding deal with the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and the Quebec government.
South Shore REM riders will also see a change. The transitional fares covering the South Shore corridor are being retired July 1 — a rollout cushion brought in three years ago when the network launched. Those riders will now need whichever standard Tous modes pass matches the zones they travel through.
