Adapted transit moving to a single metropolitan centre by 2027 in Montreal region

The ARTM is consolidating adapted transit services across the Montreal region under a single metropolitan planning centre, beginning in 2027. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will progressively operate the Centre métropolitain de planification du transport adapté, handling admission, reservations, customer service, and trip planning at a regional scale.

Currently, adapted transport activities are scattered among multiple public transit operators. The new model aims to harmonize procedures, better coordinate services, and simplify the user experience while managing growth in mobility needs amid financial constraints.

The Société de transport de Laval becomes the first territory to formally integrate, building on an existing STM-STL partnership for customer reservations that began January 1, 2026. Other territories will integrate progressively after Laval, with deployment phased by the pace of activity integration from different operators.

"In regrouping the main activities at metropolitan scale, we can harmonize practices across the region, offer more consistent service to users, and optimize use of public resources," said Ludwig Desjardins, ARTM's executive director of development and performance. The ARTM is consulting with community organizations on user needs and experience. No immediate changes are required from users, though the authority says it will inform residents in advance of any changes affecting service.
