Police chase ends with car crashing into Laval school
An 18-year-old driver suffered serious injuries after fleeing police and hitting Charles-Perrault elementary early Thursday.
An 18-year-old driver is out of danger after crashing into Charles-Perrault elementary school in Laval early Thursday morning, police say.
Laval Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Boulevard de la Concorde East at around 3:25 a.m. for a Highway Safety Code violation. The driver refused to stop and accelerated instead. Moments later, the car lost control, rolled over several times, and struck the school's main building.
The driver was transported to hospital with serious injuries but doctors determined his life was not in danger. No other injuries were reported. The crash occurred overnight while the school was unoccupied.
School administrators closed Charles-Perrault Thursday, citing "exceptional circumstances" in a Facebook post. A security perimeter was established around the building.
Collision reconstruction specialists examined the scene as investigators worked to determine what charges, if any, will be laid. The investigation remains ongoing.
