A 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being impaled by a fence post during a serious motor vehicle collision in Laval early Thursday morning.
The crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on Boulevard des Oiseaux near Héron Street in Sainte-Rose. According to preliminary information, four young people between 15 and 19 were inside a Honda Civic travelling at high speed when the driver lost control.
The vehicle struck a lamppost, crashed through a cedar hedge and fence, and came to rest in a residential backyard, stopping just short of an in-ground swimming pool.
Police say the 17-year-old passenger seated in the back was impaled by the fence post during the crash. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery Thursday afternoon.
The three other occupants did not suffer serious injuries. No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon, but investigators remained on scene to determine what caused the driver to lose control. The investigation is ongoing.
