Résilience Montréal officially opened a new Indigenous-led wellness centre on Wednesday, June 17, at 780 Atwater Avenue—a major milestone after more than six years of operating from a temporary location near Cabot Square.
The three-storey, purpose-built facility provides dedicated spaces for community members to access health, legal, financial, and other support services in a private setting. The organization developed the building in consultation with First Nations and Inuit communities, unhoused individuals, and area residents. Its design incorporates Indigenous cultural elements, natural materials, and increased access to natural light to create a welcoming and healing environment.
"It's the best for the best," said David Chapman, Résilience Montréal's executive director and co-founder. The expanded facility will allow the organization to deepen its services and better meet the needs of the community it serves.
Founded in 2019 to address a gap in services for Indigenous people experiencing homelessness and insecurity in the area, Résilience Montréal marked the opening with a public grand opening celebration on Wednesday evening, featuring Indigenous cultural performances and community speakers.
