Montreal's BIXI network unveiled a fleet of artist-designed bicycles Tuesday in a collaboration with Loto-Québec that aims to reframe cycling as more than point-A-to-point-B transportation.

The "Art in Motion" project features bikes decorated by artists whose works are part of the provincial lottery corporation's art collection. Singer and art enthusiast Pierre Lapointe, who contributed to the collection, was present for the unveiling alongside the participating artists.

The decorated bikes will circulate across the roughly 1,000 BIXI stations in the Greater Montreal area this summer, meaning riders might randomly unlock a one-of-a-kind piece. Organizers say the initiative marks a new milestone in how the city thinks about public mobility — less as infrastructure, more as lived culture.

Tickets to ride remain the same; the discovery is free.
