Montréal hosts 2026 UCI Road World Championships September 20–27

Montréal will host the 2026 UCI Road World Championships from September 20 to 27, drawing over 1,000 athletes from around the world for 13 racing events. It marks the city's largest sporting event since the 1976 Olympics and returns the championships to Montréal 52 years after the 1974 edition, which was the first time the event was held outside Europe.

The races will span seven boroughs—Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Le Sud-Ouest, Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Outremont, Verdun, and Ville-Marie—plus Westmount. All events start and finish in Montréal except the elite road races, which begin at Quartier DIX30 in Brossard. Avenue du Parc will serve as the finish line for all events, with the main hub located at the foot of Mount Royal between Avenue des Pins and Avenue du Mont-Royal.

Admission is free for spectators. However, traffic and parking will be significantly impacted during the event. The main site will close to vehicular traffic from September 4 to October 4 to accommodate setup and dismantling. Routes will vary daily, with fences installed starting at 7 a.m. each day. Following each event in the early evening, streets will reopen except for the championship's main site. Montréal drivers can consult the City of Montreal site for borough-specific closure details.

The federal government is supporting the event with a $13-million investment: $9.8 million from Sport Canada through the Hosting Program and $3.2 million from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. The championships are organized by the promoter of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec et de Montréal, with support from Cycling Canada. This is the third time Canada has hosted the UCI Road World Championships, after Montréal in 1974 and Hamilton in 2003.
