The Coalition Avenir Québec held a closed-door executive council meeting Saturday to choose an interim leader, with a public announcement coming in the coming days. The party that governed Quebec with 90 seats went from majority government to zero seats in Monday's election, capturing just 13 per cent of the vote.

Christine Fréchette, who became premier after winning a leadership race, resigned as CAQ leader on Tuesday, the day after the party's complete collapse. She lost her own riding in Trois-Rivières. "I leave with the feeling of having served Quebec to the best of my ability," Fréchette said at the National Assembly.

As HighOnCity reported in October, Fréchette's departure came swiftly after the election defeat. The interim leader's name has not yet been announced, nor has a specific date been set for when the selection will become public beyond "coming days."
