Prime Minister Mark Carney has called six federal byelections for Dec. 7, and three of them are in Quebec, including two on the Island of Montreal.

The Montreal ridings are Laurier—Sainte-Marie and Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie. The third Quebec seat is Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot—Acton, in the Montérégie. Two of the vacancies are in Ontario, Scarborough North and Brantford—South Brant, and one is in Yorkton—Melville, Saskatchewan.

In Laurier—Sainte-Marie, Liberal Steven Guilbeault stepped down in August. The Liberals have nominated Guy Cormier, former president and CEO of Desjardins Group. The Bloc Québécois has named Zumretay Arkin and the NDP Ninâ Machouf. In the 2025 election Guilbeault won the riding.

In Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice left Ottawa after winning a seat in the provincial election under the Québec solidaire banner in October. In 2025 he won the riding over Liberal Jean-Sébastien Vallée. Vallée is again the Liberal candidate. Alexandre Curzi, executive director of the Union des artistes, is running for the Bloc, and Pierre Céré, former coordinator of the Montreal Unemployment Committee, for the NDP.

The Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot—Acton seat has been vacant since Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay moved to provincial politics with the Parti Québécois. In 2025 he won the seat over Liberal Mélanie Bédard. Liberal Chantal Soucy, Bloc candidate Caroline Emond and Conservative Luc Brodeur-Jourdain are among those running.

One account of the announcement gave the polling date as April 13 rather than Dec. 7; the Dec. 7 date is the one in most reports of the announcement.
