The Montreal Canadiens have promoted Daniel Jacob to head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, the team announced Monday, July 13.
Jacob, 45, moves up from assistant coach, a position he held for the past two seasons after the previous head coach Pascal Vincent left to join the Seattle Kraken as an assistant. As an assistant, Jacob oversaw the defence and penalty kill.
A Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu native, Jacob brings experience from four seasons each with the QMJHL's Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and McGill University, plus one season each with the San Diego Gulls and Syracuse Crunch. He has also played in Canadian university leagues, the QMJHL, the AHL, and professionally in Austria.
Rocket general manager John Sedgwick praised Jacob's "relentless enthusiasm, work ethic and undeniable passion" and his track record in player development. The promotion marks Jacob's first role as a head coach at the professional level.
