Digital health records launch amid staffing concerns in Quebec CLSCs
Unions report community workers lack adequate tech support for new DSN system
Quebec's new digital health record network (DSN) officially launched last week in two pilot regions—CIUSSS du Nord-de-l'Île-de-Montréal and CIUSSS Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec—but representatives from two health-care unions say community-level medical workers are struggling with implementation.
The core issue: insufficient technical support staff in CLSCs and CHSLDs. "We're sort of, like, building the plane while in flight," said Teresa Muccari, a union representative. The digital overhaul aims to modernize Quebec's historically paper-heavy health-care system, but frontline workers say they lack adequate backing to make the transition smooth.
