Fabre station's main entrance at the corner of Jean-Talon and Papineau closes completely as of Tuesday, September 8, forcing Blue Line commuters to use Access B at Jean-Talon and Fabre instead.
The STM says the 18-month closure allows workers to rebuild the structural slab and fixed staircases at the main entrance kiosk. The work is tied to construction of a new electrical substation in the area, part of the broader Blue Line extension project moving further east. The STM combined both projects into a single disruption period to avoid construction twice.
Bus service continues during the closure. The 45 Papineau route's bus stop remains shifted south of Jean-Talon, and the 93 route's stop moved to Jean-Talon. The station itself stays open — only the main entrance is sealed off. The STM expects work to wrap by winter 2028.
The Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is funding the project. A neighbourhood liaison committee will form in the coming weeks; residents can apply to join through an online form on the STM's website. The city has not released the total cost of the reconstruction and electrical substation work.
