Montreal's St-Michel metro station is fully operational again. The STM completed the $14 million renovation project Thursday, with the secondary entrance and ticket booth—closed since September—now fully reopened.

Engineers discovered significant deterioration in the station's structure in fall 2024, forcing a 39-day closure. The renovation included demolition and reconstruction of concrete slabs in two ticket booths and staircases, reinforcement of escalators, and repairs to the outdoor sidewalk and ventilation shaft.

Nearly half of the STM's properties remain in poor or very poor condition. The agency is pushing for the federal Canada Public Transit Fund to prioritize asset maintenance, citing a $7 billion investment deficit accumulated over recent years. Restoration work on the adjacent Sandro-Pertini Park is expected to finish in the coming weeks.
