Grand Prix Weekend Traffic Expected; Plan Accordingly
Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada arrives this weekend; Mobility Montréal warns of heavy congestion on key routes and bridges.
The Montreal Grand Prix arrives this weekend, and with it comes the predictable traffic headache. Mobility Montréal issued an advisory Thursday cautioning drivers to rethink their weekend travel plans for May 22–25, with particular pressure expected on the Jacques-Cartier and Samuel-De Champlain bridges.
While major expressway closures aren't scheduled, the city's arterial routes will feel the squeeze. The F1 event draws fans from across the region and beyond, and parking in the downtown core and around Parc Jean-Drapeau becomes a game of patience and luck.
The official word: consider public transit. The STM is expecting a surge, but buses and the metro beat sitting in gridlock on Décarie or heading over to the island. If you do drive, leave earlier than you think you need to. Game days and Grand Prix weekends operate on their own traffic calendar.
