Highway 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, closes completely in both directions Friday, September 18 at 10 p.m. until Saturday, September 19 at 7 a.m. for maintenance work on the tunnel's electrical and communication systems.

Transport Quebec says the work will repair items damaged due to various incidents and fender-benders over the past year. The closure affects northbound traffic from Exit 90 (Highway 20 West, Route 132, La Prairie, USA, Varennes, P.-É.-Trudeau airport) to the entrance from Sherbrooke Street. Southbound traffic is closed from Exit 5 (Route 138, Hochelaga Street, Sherbrooke Street) to the entrance from Charron Island.

Leading partial closures began earlier in the week: Route 132 eastbound closed Monday night, September 14 to Tuesday morning, September 15; two right lanes on Highway 25 northbound close Thursday, September 17 at 9 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m., along with the Exit 5 closure during that window. The entrance from Notre-Dame Street East closes Thursday at 8:30 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m., then again Friday at 10:30 p.m. until Saturday at 9 a.m. Souligny Avenue eastbound between Dickson and Honoré-Beaugrand streets closes 30 minutes before the main closure.

Work may be postponed or cancelled due to weather or operational constraints. Transport Quebec advises drivers to check Québec 511 before travelling and plan alternate routes.
