The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain launched the Pôle de données en mobilité on October 26, a new regional access point meant to make mobility data easier to share, understand and reuse across the Montreal metropolitan region.

At launch, the hub brings together ridership figures, service offers, public transit networks, sales data, results from the Perspective mobilité surveys, and indicators of public transit accessibility. The ARTM says the aim is to support metropolitan mobility planning and make the data usable for partners, researchers, journalists, organizations and citizen groups.

Ludwig Desjardins, the ARTM's executive director of development and performance, said the goal is to anticipate future needs so decision-makers can make better mobility choices. Early contributors include BIXI, exo, the Réseau de transport de Longueuil, the Société de transport de Laval, the STM, Vélo Québec, the City of Montreal, Données Québec, CDPQ Infra and the Agence de mobilité durable.

The launch is described as a first stage. The platform will be expanded over time with new data, partners and features, and the ARTM says it will work to develop new use cases. The project was funded through Montréal en commun, an initiative led by the City of Montreal with money from a Government of Canada Smart Cities Challenge prize.
