Lactalis Canada, the parent company of Cracker Barrel and other cheese brands, is acquiring Agropur Co-operative's fine cheese division, including import operations and two production facilities in Oka and Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. The deal adds approximately 400 workers to Lactalis Canada's workforce and expands its portfolio of specialty and core cheese brands—Galbani, Président, Cracker Barrel, Black Diamond, and P'tit Québec.

Emmanuel Besnier, chairman of Lactalis Group, called the acquisition an opportunity to build on flagship Quebec brands and strengthen the company's position in the Canadian market. The transaction is subject to closing conditions and approval by the Competition Bureau. Financial terms were not disclosed.
