Laurentian Bank's Quebec customers have been moved to National Bank. Former Laurentian customers lost access to transfers and ATM withdrawals when their old debit cards were deactivated at branch closing, and National Bank ATM access and new debit cards start November 9, so anyone without another payment method faces a gap until then.
National Bank is advising customers to plan alternative payment methods over the weekend. Eligible customers will receive a National Bank debit card by mail, with the PIN in a separate letter, and the PIN can be changed at any time. Laurentian Bank Visa credit cards remain operational during the migration, and National Bank advises keeping the Laurentian Bank credit card account open until further instructions, since closing it early would prevent a transfer to a National Bank credit card.
The transfer follows the agreement Laurentian announced last year to be acquired by Fairstone Bank for $1.9 billion. Under a deal signed December 2, 2025, National Bank took the personal banking and small and medium-sized business portfolios.
