A man in his 40s was hit by an STM train car Saturday morning after falling onto the tracks near downtown Montreal.

A man in his 40s is in critical condition after being struck by an STM train car at Montreal's Lionel-Groulx station Saturday morning. Emergency services responded to a 911 call around 11 a.m. reporting the man had fallen onto the tracks. He was struck by the train and sustained serious injuries before being taken to hospital.

Pierre-Luc Lefrançois, a spokesperson for Urgences-santé, confirmed the critical condition. Two operations commanders, one advanced-care paramedic, and one ambulance responded to the incident.

Montreal police said no criminal activity is suspected at this time. The cause of the fall onto the tracks has not been established, and it remains unclear whether the victim was an STM employee or a passenger. The station's operational status following the incident has not been reported.
