Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested a teenager in Montreal's Rosemont neighbourhood Friday morning after he allegedly posted threatening messages on Telegram against Muslim, Haitian and LGBTQ communities, according to RCMP Sgt. Érique Gasse.

The investigation began after a tip from American authorities flagged the suspect's ideologically-motivated extremist activities. Officers raided his parents' home and continue searching for electronic devices and other evidence. An AI company used by the teen cooperated with the investigation, though police did not name the platform.

Gasse said the teen allegedly used AI to plan an attack against a high school. "At no time was the population at risk because we had surveillance on him and now he's out of the way," Gasse said.

The suspect is expected to appear in youth court in Montreal. Authorities will seek a peace bond order, and charges may be laid at a later date. The arrest comes just days before the school year begins.
