Montreal police arrested a teenager at École secondaire Georges-Vanier in Villeray on Tuesday morning after receiving 911 calls around 9:50 a.m. about a teen in distress circulating with a knife. No one was injured and the teen was taken into custody quickly.
The school implemented a precautionary response: some students and staff remained in classrooms while others evacuated outside. The teen was not charged. The school sent a letter to parents announcing that crisis response resources had been mobilized and remain available to students who need support, supplemented by a team from the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal.
"The safety of students and staff is our top priority," the school said. "We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of violence in our school community."
