Quebec alerts public to Bacillus cereus in Ledou tofu sold across Montreal region

Quebec's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is advising residents not to consume Ledou-brand tofu sheets (300g, UPC 6 27987 42942 8) with a best-before date of August 14, 2026. The product was sold in refrigerated, sealed plastic packages at multiple Montreal-area establishments until July 30.
The tofu may contain Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause foodborne illness. Anyone who has this product should discard it — even if it shows no visible signs of spoilage or off-odours, consumption poses a health risk.
Bacillus cereus poisoning can manifest in two forms. The emetic type causes nausea and vomiting within 30 minutes to 6 hours of eating contaminated food. The diarrheal type appears 8 to 16 hours later, causing nausea, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and sometimes vomiting. In both cases, symptoms typically resolve within 24 hours. Those experiencing symptoms should consult a healthcare professional.
No illnesses linked to this product have been reported to the ministry. The distributor, Produit alimentaire Qc. Meng inc., located at 2642 rue Diab in Saint-Laurent, is conducting a recall and coordinated this public warning with the ministry and Montreal health inspectors as a precautionary measure.
