Snow is falling across parts of Quebec this week, with up to 10 centimetres expected between Monday evening and Tuesday morning in some areas.
The heaviest snow is forecast for Réserve faunique des Laurentides and along Route 175 between Quebec City and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, where 5 to 10 cm is expected by Tuesday morning, with higher amounts possible at higher elevations, according to MétéoMédia.
Wet snow showers are also possible in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Laurentians, the Eastern Townships, and Beauce, sometimes mixed with rain. A cold air mass behind a low-pressure system is driving the snow.
"The mercury should drop as early as Monday evening, with temperatures approaching the freezing mark overnight in areas like Parent, the Upper Laurentians and the mountainous parts of the Eastern Townships and Beauce," said Kevin Cloutier, a MétéoMédia meteorologist.
Temperatures are expected to hover slightly above 0°C, which means snow may not stick around on the ground for long. Slippery roads are possible Tuesday morning in affected areas. Montreal is not in the path of this week's snow.
Quebec's first snowfall of the 2026 season arrived early: September 7 in Pingualuit, Nord-du-Québec — a few days ahead of the typical September 11 average. Val-d'Or saw its first dusting Monday morning, three days earlier than average. Most of Quebec, including the greater Montreal area, typically sees its first snowfall by the end of October.
