Montrealers heading downtown this weekend need to plan ahead: Route 136 will be completely closed in both directions from Friday night to Monday morning.

The closure is necessary to install the steel structure of the western part of the Saint-Urbain Street overpass as part of its rehabilitation.

Westbound Route 136 (Ville-Marie tunnel) will close between Panet Street and the entrance from Lucien-L'Allier Street from Friday, 11 p.m., to Monday, 5 a.m. Traffic will be rerouted on Viger Avenue and Saint-Antoine Street West.

Eastbound Route 136 (Viger tunnel) will close between Exit No. 4 (Victoria Bridge, Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, de la Montagne Street) and the entrance from Atateken Street from Friday, 11:30 p.m., to Monday, 5 a.m. Traffic will be diverted to Saint-Antoine Street.

On-ramps will close 30 to 60 minutes before the complete closure. Temporary signage and police officers on site will help direct traffic. Work may be postponed due to adverse weather conditions or operational constraints.

Before heading out, check Québec 511 or download the Québec 511 mobile application to stay updated on traffic conditions. If you regularly use these tunnels for your commute, budget extra time Monday morning when service resumes.
