Strong winds and hail swept across the Greater Montreal area Sunday, leaving nearly 9,000 Hydro-Québec customers without power and causing serious injuries at a community gathering.

The majority of outages hit the Laurentians, where more than 6,250 households lost electricity. Laval reported over 1,300 outages, with additional disruptions across Outaouais and Montérégie. Hydro-Québec crews worked to restore service, citing fallen branches as the primary cause.

The storm also turned dangerous at Ouellette Park in LaSalle. Around 4:30 p.m., powerful wind gusts lifted an inflatable play structure during a church gathering and crashed it into a nearby tent. Eleven people were injured in the incident, including a three-year-old girl who remains in critical condition. Six victims were transported to hospital.

Authorities continue investigating the incident as cleanup continues across the region.
