Montreal faces strong winds tonight as Environment Canada issues a special weather statement warning of northeasterly gusts up to 80 km/h, accompanied by up to 15mm of rain.

The winds are expected to ease in the early morning hours Saturday. The weather service is urging residents to secure or put away objects that could be damaged or moved by wind, and warns that local power outages are possible.

The timing is unfortunate — the city heads into a weekend packed with cycling events and the Montreal Victoire championship parade, both of which could see disruptions if conditions worsen. Residents heading out should check weather updates before travelling and be prepared for potential service interruptions.
