Montreal police will provide an update Tuesday afternoon on the investigation into the police shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi, including news of arrests that have been made.
Rezayi was shot and killed on September 21, 2025, by a Longueuil police officer after police responded to a 911 call about a group of armed youths in a residential neighbourhood of Longueuil. Quebec's police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), reported that the only gun seized at the scene belonged to the officer who fired.
Rezayi's family filed a $2.2-million lawsuit against the City of Longueuil and its police force, claiming the teenager was shot about 10 seconds after officers arrived and that police used unreasonable and disproportionate force. Concerns were also raised by the BEI because Longueuil police waited 96 minutes before notifying the agency of Rezayi's death.
Chief Inspector David Shane with the SPVM will lead Tuesday's 3 p.m. press conference.
