Vancouver's 54-40 takes the stage at Hard Rock Live on June 30, firing up a 2026 tour after seven months without a show. The band just wrapped fifty performances last year plus recording sessions in Portugal and is ready to shake off the rust.

"It's rusty when you haven't played for that amount of time, so you're very present," guitarist Dave Genn told Apt613. "By the time we get to Ottawa, we'll be purring."

Since their 1982 debut, the band has released 16 albums — including platinum records in the '90s — and showed no signs of slowing. They'll perform new material from Porto, their latest album, released two years after West Coast Band. Genn explained the band prioritizes new recordings to stay challenged: "Writing, recording, and then performing new songs forces you to be in the moment and stay excited and stay engaged."

Their breakthrough came nearly a decade after "I Go Blind" became a radio staple following Hootie and the Blowfish's cover. "One Day in Your Life" and "One Gun" finally cracked the charts in the early '90s, cementing their place in Canadian rock history. But the band never stopped churning out records or touring — unlike many peers who quit or slow to one album per decade.

For Porto, the band tried a new approach: write and demo fast, then play the material live over nine months before finishing. It's a departure from West Coast Band, which was pieced together remotely during COVID lockdown, never rehearsed as a full band until after completion.

Fans can expect classics like "Baby Ran" — a staple since 1985 — alongside fresh tracks that keep the band engaged and present on stage.
