Ottawa police are investigating a second armed robbery tied to Facebook Marketplace transactions within three days, this one occurring August 11, in Barrhaven.
On Sunday evening between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m., a seller meeting a prospective buyer near Berrigan and Beatrice drives was approached by a suspect who pulled a handgun and took the item being sold, according to police. Officers are asking anyone with video footage from the time and location to come forward.
This follows a Monday incident outside a CIBC bank in Manotick where shots were fired. As HighOnCity reported in August, a youth buyer pulled a gun on the seller, and two shots rang out with no one struck. A security guard, the victim, and an off-duty police officer apprehended the suspect, who sustained minor injuries and was taken to CHEO.
Ottawa Police operate Safe Trade Zones at three locations to encourage people to meet away from secluded areas: the Elgin Street police station (466 Metcalfe St.), the Kanata police station (211 Huntmar Dr.), and the Orleans police station (3343 St-Joseph Blvd). The zones are marked with blue logos but are not actively police-monitored, and officers are not responsible for mediating transactions there.
