Gatineau homicide marks third killing this year

A Gatineau man has become the city's third homicide victim of 2026. Jean Patenaude, 45, died from injuries sustained in an assault with a weapon on June 17 on Broadway Street West.
Gatineau police announced the death on Monday, June 22. A suspect, Kevin-Jordy Rotangar, 26, was arrested and faced charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault at the time of his arrest. Police said investigators are working with the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions to determine what charges will be laid.
