Ottawa police are investigating the deaths of two residents as homicides after their bodies were found at separate locations on Saturday, August 22.
Kesi Fevrier, 27, was found inside a vehicle with suspicious injuries after Sûreté du Québec responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Papineauville, Que., shortly before 1 a.m. She was transported to hospital and died shortly after. Quebec police requested assistance from Ottawa Police Service, which led officers to a dwelling in the 200 block of Guigues Avenue in Lowertown, where they found Kingsley Nwude, 34, just after 11 a.m. that morning. Police did not indicate how the two deaths may be related.
Fevrier's death is being classified as a femicide — the killing of women and girls because of their gender. The designation makes her Ottawa's third femicide of the year. Ottawa police reported a 6 per cent increase in the number of incidents of intimate partner violence in the nation's capital year-over-year.
