Ottawa police are investigating a murder-suicide after two boys, aged 7 and 10, were found dead inside a home on Mandevilla Crescent in the Leitrim community around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29.
The children's father was located dead in a vehicle near Highway 416 at Rideau River Road after emergency responders were called to a vehicle fire around 5:30 a.m. that same morning. The carpool lot in Kemptville was closed for the investigation.
Ottawa police described the investigation as "complex" and said they are working with the Ontario Provincial Police on related aspects of the case. The OPP is also holding the scene of a business fire in Iroquois for Ottawa police investigation.
Investigators said they continue to assess connections between the incidents and do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public. The names of the children are not being released at this time.
