Emergency responders found two boys, aged 7 and 12, dead inside a home on Mandevilla Crescent on July 1, around 10 a.m. The discovery came after police received a wellness-check call from someone in the area who had knocked on the door with no response.

Earlier that morning, around 5:30 a.m., emergency officials were called to Highway 416 at Rideau River Road for a vehicle fire. The carpool lot in Kemptville was closed for the investigation. Ottawa police located the children's father dead in the vehicle.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe issued a statement acknowledging the loss. "There are no words to describe this immeasurable loss," Sutcliffe wrote. "My thoughts are with everyone grieving today, especially the family and their close friends. This is a very difficult day for our community."

Police said they recognize the public's desire for more information and will release additional details when available. Certain investigative and forensic examinations remain outstanding and require time to complete.

Support is available for those affected through local resources, including the 24-hour Distress Centre, Counselling Connect, and 211.
