A 28-year-old Ottawa man was arrested on August 25 in the Montreal area and charged with assault causing bodily harm in connection with an incident that circulated on social media in early August.
Abdul Rahman Al Hallak was held in custody at a detention centre in Valleyfield and was expected to appear in court in Gatineau by video conference on Wednesday to face the charge. The Sûreté du Québec arrested him; the Gatineau Police Service and Gatineau police released details about the case.
On August 8, shortly before 4 a.m., a man allegedly struck a woman in the face in the Hull sector. Video of the incident subsequently circulated on social media. The alleged victim was conscious when police arrived and was attended to by Outaouais paramedics, then transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.
