75 Vehicles Dispersed from Unauthorized Kanata Car Meet
Police shut down an event promoted on social media as legitimate but held without lot owner permission.
Ottawa police dispersed roughly 75 vehicles from an unauthorized car meet in a Kanata parking lot last week after the gathering was promoted on social media as an authorized event.
Officers confirmed with the lot owners that they had not authorized the meetup and instructed the group to leave. All attendees cooperated with authorities, and no incidents or street racing were reported as vehicles dispersed. Officers monitored nearby roads and other potential gathering locations throughout the evening.
Police issued several provincial notices for vehicle equipment violations and unnecessary noise. In a separate incident the same night, a 23-year-old was clocked speeding on a motorcycle at 155 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Merivale Road and Capilano Drive. The driver had just come from a motorcycle meetup. The rider's motorcycle was impounded for 14 days and their licence suspended for 30 days.
Ottawa police said the force continues to work with property owners and community partners to address unlawful vehicle gatherings and dangerous driving.
