A bagpiper was injured in an unprovoked altercation near the National War Memorial on Saturday afternoon, and Ottawa police arrested one person at the scene.
The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. on Wellington Street, near the Fairmont Château Laurier. A shocked bystander captured the melee on video. Patrol Sergeant Jason Riopel said the musician sustained minor injuries that were not life-threatening and appeared to have an injured left hand.
"It seems like the altercation was unprovoked," Riopel said. "But we're still trying to determine what the motive was." Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances and the motive behind the attack.
