Child dies after being pulled from Rideau River

A 6-year-old child died Thursday after being pulled from the Rideau River near Riverside Drive and Hogs Back Road.

Ottawa police received a report of a missing child around 5:10 p.m. Witnesses spotted the child in the water and immediately brought them to shore, where bystanders began CPR before paramedics arrived and transported the child to hospital.

The child was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Ottawa police said support services have been made available to emergency personnel involved, the child's family, and those affected by the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
