City transitions to personalized recovery model for residents hit by three extreme weather events

The City of Ottawa is transitioning to a personalized recovery model for residents affected by the extreme weather events of July 1 and the more recent storms on August 10 and 12.

Residents seeking support with backwater valve permits and related permitting questions can contact the city at 613-580-2424, ext. 29312, or visit Ben Franklin Place at 101 Centrepointe Drive, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome; present at the service desk on the second floor.

The Canadian Red Cross offers virtual and in-person support to impacted households Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second floor of Ben Franklin Place. Red Cross representatives can help residents connect with community resources, understand insurance and construction options, and navigate cleanup and repair activities. Appointments are available by calling 1-800-863-6582 or emailing NavigationSupportON@redcross.ca; walk-in visits are also welcome.

For questions about the Residential Protective Plumbing Program and the Compassionate Grant Program, residents can visit the permit desk at 951 Clyde Avenue North from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday. Appointments are preferred and can be booked by emailing or calling 613-580-2424, ext. 22300. Residents should review eligibility requirements and bring necessary documentation.

Residents affected by heavy rainfall can request storm-related waste collection beyond the standard three-item limit by placing materials at the curb and submitting a service request online or calling 3-1-1, selecting "storm-related waste" from the dropdown menu.

The Trail Road Landfill, at 4475 Trail Road, waives tipping fees for storm-related waste until further notice. It's open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will open to the public on Saturdays, August 15 and 22, and September 12 and 26.
