Claude Giroux hasn't made a decision on his future, keeping the door open to multiple suitors despite reports suggesting a return to Philadelphia may be inevitable.
The 38-year-old alternate captain spent the last four seasons with the Ottawa Senators and has offers from both them and the Flyers, the team where he spent 15 years and played 1,000 NHL games. The Toronto Maple Leafs have also expressed interest in signing him. While Giroux feels he has a foot out the door, sources close to the veteran told the Ottawa Citizen on Friday that he hasn't finalized his choice, suggesting he wants time to consider what could be his final season in the NHL.
Sentators general manager Steve Staios confirmed on July 1 that the club has tabled an offer and remains eager to bring Giroux back. In Philadelphia, Giroux is beloved as the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 291 goals and 609 assists. With the Senators, he recorded 85 goals and 242 points in 337 games and has been close friends with Thomas Chabot and Tim Stutzle.
Philadelphia's recent aggressive move in signing restricted free agent Leo Carlsson to a five-year, $90 million U.S. offer sheet may complicate the Flyers' ability to bring Giroux back quickly. Anaheim has until July 11 to decide whether to match the offer.
