Driver charged with stunt driving after passenger rode in open truck bed
An OPP officer spotted a person sitting in a moving SUV's trunk filming sports cars on Highway 417 Saturday night.
A driver was charged with stunt driving on Highway 417 after an Ontario Provincial Police officer spotted a passenger riding in the vehicle's open trunk while filming two sports cars behind it.
The incident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. Police say the driver had his licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Upon conviction, the driver faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points, and a one-year driving prohibition. The passenger was also charged with occupying a position in a vehicle without a seatbelt and fined $240.
Police did not disclose the ages of either person involved.
The incident is a reminder that the Queensway sees regular traffic enforcement, and that reckless stunts come with serious legal consequences.
