Ottawa police stepped up patrols in the downtown core and ByWard Market between Friday and Saturday night, conducting what they describe as proactive enforcement during the busy summer season.
The initiative resulted in 24 alcohol interventions, 16 licensed establishment walkthroughs, 18 public interactions, four traffic stops, 14 by-law infractions, six parking tickets, 15 by-law warnings, and three Provincial Offence Notices issued under the Trespass to Property Act. One man was arrested and charged with an impersonation offence and possible breaches of release conditions; a vehicle was also seized.
During a licensed establishment walkthrough, officers removed one person from the business. "OPS will continue working with city and provincial enforcement partners throughout the summer to support a safe environment for residents, visitors, businesses and frontline workers in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau area," the service said.
