Police pulled 27 heavy trucks off the road after a commercial vehicle safety blitz in west Ottawa on July 13. The joint operation by Ottawa Police Service, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, and Ontario Provincial Police inspected over 60 trucks and found widespread mechanical and licensing failures.

The inspection uncovered 67 defects across the fleet. Issues included failed brakes, steering component problems, faulty lamps, worn tires, loose loads, improper driver logs, and suspended driving licenses. Two drivers were discovered operating on suspended licenses.

Police laid 38 charges related to annual inspections, daily inspection reports, expired or missing Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration certificates, vehicle emissions, load security, overweight vehicles, improper tires and brakes, and permit violations. One license plate was removed from service.

The safety blitz was conducted by inspectors from MTO, OPP, and OPS, supported by OPS units including West District Traffic, the Road Safety Unit, and the Impounded Vehicles Unit.
