Ottawa police conducted an intensive weekend patrol in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau area on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27, as part of a broader Community Safety Initiative running through the summer.

Officers worked to address disorderly conduct and support local businesses. The weekend results included 67 by-law infractions, 20 alcohol interventions, 16 inspections and walkthroughs, 12 traffic stops, 8 Provincial Offence Notices and 1 arrest on an outstanding warrant.

During inspections and walkthroughs with enforcement partners, two unlicensed security guards were identified and charged. Officers also managed traffic violations including cellphone use, seatbelt violations, expired plates, excessive noise and passengers hanging from vehicle windows, issuing verbal warnings and education where possible.

The Community Safety Initiative is a partnership between police, OC Transpo, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and the City of Ottawa's By-law and Regulatory Services. Increased police presence will continue throughout the summer in this area.
