The Ottawa Police Service announced increased police presence in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau through the summer in an effort to combat crime and maintain social order.

Proactive patrols will be conducted by frontline officers and members of the Neighbourhood Resource Team. Partners from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, OC Transpo, and the City of Ottawa's By-law and Regulatory Services will assist in these patrols.

Police say violations of the Liquor Licence and Control Act, criminal offences, and aggressive panhandling will not be tolerated. Community Safety Initiatives will be enforced each weekend throughout the summer to support a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
