Alberta RCMP removed 125 impaired drivers from roads during the Labour Day long weekend as part of a provincewide enforcement push to curb dangerous driving during one of the year's busiest travel periods.

The enforcement operation resulted in 11 drivers receiving 24-hour suspensions, 26 receiving WARNS, 85 receiving FAILS, and 3 novice or commercial drivers being removed for zero-tolerance violations where any presence of alcohol is prohibited. The RCMP also issued 1,125 traffic violation tickets alongside the impaired-driving work: more than half were for speeding, with the remainder involving distracted driving and seatbelt violations.

During the long weekend, 3 injury collisions and 2 fatal crashes occurred on Alberta roads, resulting in 2 deaths.

Alberta RCMP said the operation emphasized the dangers of impaired and aggressive driving as Albertans travel during extended-weekend periods. The force did not provide a year-over-year comparison to Labour Day enforcement in previous years.
