Alberta minister Nally pitches iGaming to 25,000 industry professionals in Vegas

Alberta's Service Minister Dale Nally attended the Global Gaming Expo on the Las Vegas Strip this week to market the province's newly regulated iGaming market to 400 exhibitors and 25,000 industry professionals from over 120 countries.

Nally spoke on a panel Tuesday afternoon alongside executives from FanDuel and blockchain security firm GeoComply, and officials from the Alberta iGaming Corporation — the entity that will manage online gaming in the province. The pitch comes as Alberta works toward launching its regulated iGaming framework next spring, having passed the iGaming Act in May.

"The more regulated operators we attract to Alberta, the more we can crowd out predatory, unregulated operators," Nally said. He framed the trip as crucial to staying current with how the industry is evolving: "The iGaming space is evolving quickly, and attending G2E helps us stay on top of it so our player protections continue to reflect how people are actually gambling."

Nally's itinerary included sessions on responsible gambling practices and blockchain technology — areas the province is still developing regulations for. "Being able to meet with some vendors, and to be able to attend some lectures on responsible gambling was incredibly important," he said, adding that the networking opportunity was key: "Because ultimately we want them to come to Alberta and invest, and so it was a good chance to connect with them and talk about what next steps look like."

The province is still in the regulatory build-out phase. Work is underway on the policy framework and the Alberta iGaming Corporation structure, with a goal to have everything operational by spring 2027.
